SQLSurrey

Welcome to the SQLSurrey PASS Chapter

We are SQLSurrey, the SQL Server Usergroup based in Guildford and surrounding areas. We're a group of SQL enthusiasts from the area who specialise in the MSBI & Azure side of things, but we'll be hosting a range talks across the whole SQL spectrum.

We're hoping to build up a community of like-minded peers to share knowledge, sharpen skills and enjoy a few beers. It's pretty important to us that these aren't lectures - we'll be occupying the back room of a pub and keeping things informal as best we can!

Inaugural SQLSurrey Meeting - KickOff Session & "R in BI" Talk

  • In-Person @ The Stoke Pub & Pizzeria Guildford, Surrey, United Kingdom (map)
  • 19:00 - 22:00 GMT Daylight Time
  • Language: English

For our first session, we'll spend a bit of time introducing ourselves, getting to know everyone, getting a feel for what everyone would like to get out of the group and technologies we're interested in.

We've got a few ideas about alternative sessions - coding dojos, hackathons, quizzes etc, would be good to get some feedback about what people would attend, other possible formats etc.

Featured Presentation:

R in BI

Ust Oldfield, BI Consultant Adatis Consulting Ltd,

With R integrated with the soon-to-be-released SQL Server 2016, it's becoming more than a specialist language for statisticians. In this talk, we will briefly layout what R and BI are (including a funny video). We will then explore different uses for R in the BI world, such as in the ETL & data processing, integrated reporting and as a tool for ad-hoc analysis. Bio: As a fellow of the royal statistical society, Ust spents his life seeking out statistical wrongs and righting them, he does, however, insist he is still a "cool dude". A BI Consultant for Adatis by day, Ust has recently been exploring applications of statistical methods within traditional BI architectures.
